THE MIRACLE OF RESURRECTION SEED

You have heard me say it many times—everything God does, He begins with a seed. Some may argue that creation is an exception, since God made everything He made at that point in adult form. However, it is important to note that Genesis 1:11-12 says, “Then God said, “Let the earth produce vegetation: plants yielding seed and fruit trees on the earth yielding fruit after their kind with seed in them.” And it was so. The earth produced vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind and trees yielding fruit with seed in them after their kind. And God saw that it was good.”

There are two things that stand out to me about this passage. First, God specifically pointed out that every plant yielded seed—that is, it produced seed. Second, the fruit that the plants produced had seed in them. This concept is repeated in verse 29. When the word of God repeats a principle, it is not just to take up extra space, but it is to emphasize its importance. God is telling us at the very beginning of creation that seed is of ultimate value. Nothing in the world grows without a seed of some sort beginning the process. This has been God’s plan from the outset to perpetuate every living being that He created. I might add that even though seed is not specifically mentioned regarding birds, animals, and man, that concept is implied and understood due to God’s immediate instruction for all of those categories of beings to be fruitful and multiply (see Genesis 1:22, 28).

Circling back to plants and their seeds, those are the fundamentals behind the principle that has endured ever since man began to till the ground after the fall in Genesis 3. The principle to which I am referring is sowing and reaping.

God always intended for plants to reproduce by seed production and distribution. At creation, this process may have seemed haphazard and accidental, but it was a product of God’s remarkable design. Before the events of Genesis 3 caused disruption in the created order of things, the earth brought forth bountifully on its own, without any manipulation on man’s part. Of course, after the fall, man had to work to obtain food from the ground, which labored ever after under a curse because of man’s sin. Now, instead of valuable plants bringing forth more than enough to sustain the people that God put on the earth, man now must be very intentional in working to assure an adequate food supply. This does not mean, however, that the principle of sowing and reaping has been repealed or negated. What it means is that when you sow, you must be intentional and not assume that you will see a harvest by accident or without giving proper attention to assuring provision for yourself, your family, and others.

There are three additional fundamentals that determine what kind of a harvest will be available on every seed that is sown. First is the seed. Second is the soil. Third is the season.

Before I go further, I want to share with you some fascinating facts about seed. Every seed has three parts:

First, there is the seed coat—the outer shell, so to speak, that protects what is inside the seed. The purpose of the seed coat is to protect the seed from:

  • Drought
  • Disease
  • Damage

Next, there is the endosperm—the food for the baby plant as it begins to grow, until it can begin to produce food for itself by means of photosynthesis. The endosperm has three nutrients:

  • Starch
  • Oils
  • Proteins

Finally, there is the embryo—the embryonic (infant) plant which resides inside the seed. The embryo itself has three parts:

  • Radicle—the root
  • Plumule—the shoot
  • Cotyledon or cotyledons—the leaves

This entire plan is not the product of random chance or millions of years of natural selection. It is a process designed by God to perpetuate what He created. Regardless of what a mess man has made regarding his stewardship of the earth, the principle of seedtime and harvest remain intact. It will work just as well now as it did at the beginning of creation.

I find it fascinating that God put an example of His own image in every seed that is produced. Every seed has three parts. Every part of every seed has either three parts or three functions. God is three in one—and we see His nature and character in every act of sowing, because He has revealed Himself in every seed.

Not only that, but every seed that has ever been created has life in itself. If that seed is sown in the proper conditions, it will produce many more just like it. Seeds are powerful!

I want to emphasize the distinction between accidental and intentional sowing. Plants may scatter their seeds at random, and some of them will grow—usually very few. The odds against a particular seed growing all the way to harvest are slim when the process is left to chance. However, we can change the equation by sowing purposely and intentionally rather than allowing random events to determine our harvest. No farmer will sow seed indiscriminately, trusting to luck to provide a harvest that will sustain him.

In the parable of the sower in Mark 4:1-8, Jesus said the sower could not expect a harvest on seed that is accidentally sown on inadequate soil. Only seed that is sown in good ground produces a harvest that remains. But what a harvest is available as a result of the right seed, sown in the right soil, during the right season! Jesus said that under those conditions, a sower could expect increase of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times what had been sown. And He was just talking about natural increase. What could happen when God becomes involved in your sowing, bringing you a measure of supernatural increase? How would your sowing change if you knew God would be involved in the process at every step of the way?

Every year Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ on Resurrection Sunday—often referred to as Easter. It is one of two times during the year that even unbelievers are persuaded to attend a church service. I invite you to participate with us at World Harvest Church in two things during this Resurrection season.

First, we are trusting God for a great harvest of souls to be brought into the kingdom of God as we worship together on Resurrection Sunday. I expect our altars to be crowned with multitudes of men, women, boys, and girls coming to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior and Redeemer. I expect the same for you, regardless of where you worship.

Next, it has been our custom at World Harvest Church to celebrate the resurrection life of God in another way. God spoke to me forty-one years ago and said, “You celebrate Me giving My best on Resurrection Sunday. I want you to challenge the people to give their best to commemorate what I have done for them.”

That word unlocked a measure of extravagant and generous giving that has not only resulted in an uncountable harvest of souls, but it has also produced some of the most remarkable miracles we see all year.

When God originally spoke to me about Resurrection Seed, He indicated that the equivalent of one week’s income would for many people be a miraculous seed. Some of us have gone beyond that. For others, it may not be as much. What is important is that everyone gives their best to position themselves to receive what God has for them as a result of sowing their very best seed.

As remarkable as a seed is, and as powerful as the life that is in it is, there is one thing a seed cannot do: it cannot sow itself. It must be sown intentionally and specifically by the sower who has the seed.

I invite you to participate with us in sowing a Resurrection Seed as we celebrate what God has done by giving us His very best seed in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe God will bless you far beyond your expectation as you do!

Also, in this edition of Say That, I have included access to a small book titled Resurrection Reality. By clicking the button below, you can read the story of the original Resurrection Seed vision and the powerful testimonies of miracles that have followed. I believe it will greatly encourage you, and it would also be a blessing for you to share with your congregation. The book includes photos and additional insights that help bring this remarkable story to life.
